Miku Nendoroid (Vocaloid) Good Smile Company

September 30, 2008

This figure is of Miku from Vocaloid, the manufacturer is Good Smile Company and this happens to be Nendoroid #33 in the series. I got this nendoroid on the 2nd release and there is going to be at least 1 more release of this figure, it’s currently set for Winter ’08. If you want a spectacular list of every nendoroid released/announced take a peek at Hina’s Thread on the TL Forum. What is Vocaloid? It’s actually is a singing synthesizer software  that enables users to synthesize singing by just typing in lyrics and melody. However, if you’re like me, you may also know her from a friend linking you some silly YouTube videos like Levan Polkka or Kurutto, Odotte, Hatsune Miku. The way I have her displayed above is how I have her on my shelf. I just absolutely love that silly face and her leek, just looking at her makes my day a little brighter and I’d love to have another for my desk at work. There is a Limited Edition of Miku with other silly faces and two leeks but honestly I think this is the better face. But many people seem determined to have nendoroid Miku with two leeks and the other faces despite the extra expense for the other version. You can judge for yourself which you prefer by looking at the Prototype Pictures of the WonFes ’08 Miku Nendoroid.

Vampire Knight – Review Blurb

September 29, 2008

Note: There are no spoilers in this review. Everything I talk about is revealed in the 1st episode.

Quick Summary
Cross Academy has two sets of students, the Day Students and the Night Students, and the Night Students happen to be vampires. The goal of the school is to create a peaceful environment for both humans and vampires to live in and put to rest the age old war between the two races, although the Day Students don’t know that the eerily beautiful Night Students are actually vampires. The vampires at the school thrive on a pill that allows vampires to receive nutrition without harming humans for their blood. But a vampire’s hunting instinct is still difficult to control…

Haruna (Shueisha) To Love Ru

September 26, 2008

This figure is of Haruna from To Love Ru and is by Shueisha. This is only my second Shueisha figure (my first one being Moka of Rosario+Vampire) and this figure is a VAST improvement in quality from what I’ve seen so far. The pose is a very cute/shy/femine pose, I really like the pose. I usually dislike short skirts but she makes the short skirt look ladylike and dainty. I also happen to think the To Love Ru uniform is cute and Shueisha did it great justice with their paint job. The skirt is done MILES better then the (similar) skirt Moka wears from Shueisha’s figure line.

Nami (Megahouse) One Piece

September 25, 2008

This is Nami of One Piece, the figure is by Megahouse. There are two PVC figures of Nami by Megahouse, but I only wanted one Nami. I chose this one because I felt it looked the best of the two, both in terms of her outfit and pose. The other figure of Nami is based off an outfit that I don’t believe she ever even wore in the anime, whereas the one I have she definitely wore for an entire story arc. Not to mention she actually has her weapon out in this one and I always favor a figure with a weapon over an unarmed one.

Yuki (FREEing) The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya

September 24, 2008

This figure is of Yuki from The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, the figure is by FREEing. First off I want to say I had lighting issues. I’m still unsure of how I feel about how my pictures turned out but I’m too lazy to re-take 100 pictures and pick out the best ones. There are many reviews out there of Yuki so if you want to find some perfectly lite pictures of this figure it shouldn’t be too hard.

Last Haul of September!

September 24, 2008

The LAST Haul of September!! This haul is a lot larger then I had initially planned but ToysLogic had a buy one get one half off sale on all in stock figures and I splurged on 2 figures that I had considered just a bit too expensive to be on my pre-order lists…if you know the figure prices of all these figures you can probably guess which 2 right now. That One Piece flag is actually a beach towel, it’s a belated birthday gift for my boyfriend. I’ll probably never get a chance to use it myself since if I’m going to the beach that prob means he is coming too. A girlfriend that buys her boyfriend a Haruhi body pillow AND a One Piece towel? Aren’t the otaku men of the world just too jealous 😉 . I bought that towel and the Pinky at the bottom center from HLJ. I really liked the hair on that Pinky, was very retro, plus her main outfit is delightfully girlie. Not to mention Pinky figures are incredibly affordabe, she cost under $7.

Rider (Good Smile Company) Fate: Stay/Night

September 22, 2008

This figure is of Rider from the series Fate: Stay/Night, the figure is by Good Smile Company. This is an older figure…I think the release date was 2005? So don’t expect to find her casually on a store web site, the only way to come across this little beauty these days is eBay/Yahoo Japan or maybe a convention. The good news is that there are currently NO KNOWN BOOTLEGS of this figure. These days she sells for about $200 and cost about $55 originally. So unless you’re rich this figure isn’t something you should just buy on impulse. Are you Rider obsessed? Then maybe you should hunt down this figure still but keep in mind that eb Craft is also making a lovely Rider that is also based on her Fate: Stay/Night identity. Griffon also hinted at WonFes ’08 that they may be coming out with a Fate: Stay/Night Rider figure of their own.
