First Haul of December

December 12, 2008

dechaul1

All my December Hauls are going to arrive back to back, so I’m going to have this little haul post today and probably a HUGE one next week. I’m delighted that Megahouse is doing Portraits of Pirates figures of the One Piece crew when they were kids. After all, their bittersweet/sad childhood stories were what made me latch onto these characters and love them as much as I do. I consider my One Piece figures to be the heart of my collection, they would be the last ones I’d sell in a time of great financial emergency. I have great admiration for characters that don’t obsess over their sad childhoods and instead look with excitment towards the future. The set above is the 2nd set of the kid versions (the first set had Luffy, Robin, and Sanji), in this set is Zoro, Nami, and Nojiko. When I review these figures I’ll probably do them as sets, I’m thinking I’ll take the pictures this weekend. They come with 2 heads with different facial expressions and different accessories. NOW onto my video games and manga!

One Piece – Review Blurb

October 10, 2008

Note: In this review blurb I’m going to talk about each crew member and their abilities, I won’t talk about their background. So if you consider learning which characters join the crew a spoiler, turn away. But I warn you every single crew member is spoiled in the anime by the opening prior to them officially joining.

Quick Summary
One Piece is about the adventures of a group of misfit pirates called the Straw Hat Crew, each member is determined to achieving their own respective dreams. Although their dreams differ, the path they take to achieve their dreams happens to be shared by the other members of the crew. The common part of their goals is to venture out into the Grand Line. The Grand Line is referred to as the Pirate’s Graveyard because many pirates go there in search of treasure and obtaining the One Piece but most meet their fate instead. This story was heavily influenced by Akira Toriyama’s Dragonball works, although that isn’t to say if you disliked or liked Dragonball you’ll automatically dislike or like this anime, Eiichiro Oda has created an original series that is all his own.

Nami (Megahouse) One Piece

September 25, 2008

This is Nami of One Piece, the figure is by Megahouse. There are two PVC figures of Nami by Megahouse, but I only wanted one Nami. I chose this one because I felt it looked the best of the two, both in terms of her outfit and pose. The other figure of Nami is based off an outfit that I don’t believe she ever even wore in the anime, whereas the one I have she definitely wore for an entire story arc. Not to mention she actually has her weapon out in this one and I always favor a figure with a weapon over an unarmed one.
