Is that a DOLL?!

NO! It’s a pose-able 1/4th scale figure with a wig and clothing…FINE it’s a doll I admit it! My poor boyfriend isn’t pleased with this new collectible of mine. Loads of manga? Fine! Rows of flamboyant figures? Ok! But now…dolls? Aw man… My poor boy toy has to put up with my hobbies that just seem to get weirder and weirder. He happens to think all dolls are disturbing and these dolls (Pullips) are especially creepy to him. I realize he isn’t in the minority in thinking these dolls look creepy either. But I can’t help it, to me she is soooooooo pretty! *Girlie Squeal* It could just be that I was raised surrounded by dolls that they don’t disturb me. My mom collected some porcelain dolls that she kept in my room. Although at night there was this one lady doll that I swore would turn and look at me, I had my mom put that one in her room.

This Pullip is Alte and she was released in April of 2007 and she is a collectible fashion doll that is a product of JUN Planning. One of the reasons I didn’t get any Pullips until now was because I always felt they were too expensive. But with sky rocketing figure prices lately (Alter Yoko, Good Smile Company Saber Lily…etc) their pricetag has really started to look reasonable. So here on out I’ll be cutting back on my figure spending every once in a while to substitute in a Pullip I like.  Plus it’s kind of nice to be in a hobby (for once) that is dominated by females.

I picked Alte as my first Pullip because I love black and white polka dots, vintage dresses, brown hair, and big brown eyes. It also helped that she was the cheapest Pullip out there. But now that I have my first one I know I’ll be getting more! I’ve always thought that pose-able figures were ok but…I’ve never loved having so many posing options as much as I do now with Pullips. As fans of figures how do you guys feel about if your girlfriend/wife/love interest were really into these Pullips? Would that scare you away or do you think you’d better understand their fetish because you collect figures?

So here is the plan. If I promise to put more effort into better panty shots on my sexy lady figures…how about you guys humor me and my occasional Pullip post 🙂

    Im with your boy here.
I approve with all of your Hobbies but dolls?
I gotta agree with him on the beeing creepy part as well…Sounds like id get along with him ^_^

@ Blowfish – Would you tolerate the fact that your gf loves dolls if she was also really into anime and video games? I think it’s a fair trade as long as I don’t keep them in the room we sleep in. If I put her by his alarm clock I get the feeling she will surely be attacked in the middle of the night though. I’m a lucky woman to have a guy that tolerates so much silliness though, I definitely admit that.

    My Comment wasnt meant serious ^^;

Everybodies different and I think you should respect each others tastes. That doesnt mean that you have to like them though 😛
A relationship is always a give and take and aslong as you dont force anything onto your partner its cool.

Sorry if i brought along the wrong message

@ Blowfish – Ah I’m sorry, I knew you were joking but I felt like asking that stuff cause I was curious 🙂 didn’t mean to give the impression my feelings were hurt if that’s what you thought. It’s pretty darn hard to hurt my feelings or offend me.

@Luckie-chan: A-ha! Now I know what u meant by loving “polka dots”, lol.

Hmm, I don’t think I have any problem with dolls either way. You’re right, if I collected figures, why should I mind if a girlfriend collects dolls? After all, have I shown u my “Storm Trooper & Barbie” post yet? LOL ^o^

Ahh okay so that was just me beeing overselfconscious…
    Like I wrote:
I can tolerate it since she would have to tolerate my stuff aswell.I think id tease her though^^

This doll scares the crap out of me.

I am under the impression that dolls with big heads with always walk around by himself/herself in the middle of the night. This one looks like the one I saw at 3am the other morning. You might want to check her out tonight … yes, this is a guy thing.

  9. lovelyduckie says:

AHAHAHAHAHAHA oh man, all your responses are just like his (especially OpenHappy’s). I’ll keep my Pullip pics in my haul threads and put a disclaimer before you get to them.

I think it’s totally alright to collect and to a fan of dolls… of any kind. I personally like the pose-able ones because you can be creative and do what you want with them. Doll’s to me are like a lesser form of Gundam/Generic Mecha series plastic models. It’s all in good fun. ^^

Congrats on your Alte, those are cute pictures but pullips aren’t 1/4 scale.. their heads are 1/3 scale and their bodies are 1/6 (playscale ie. barbie and other fashion dolls).

Considering my husband and I have his and her dollfie dreams, my husband is actually pretty cool about the whole doll thing. He still loathes my blythes though.

  12. lovelyduckie says:

@ soda (Hina) – You caught me 🙂 the 1/4 scale statement was a complete guess.

  13. meimi132 says:

The majority of Pullips look pretty creepy to me.. and I love Dollfies. But your Pullip looks… nicer… the eyes are different. How much was she?? And where’d u get? HLJ?

  14. lovelyduckie says:

@ meimi – I buy Pullips from PullipStyle.com , they’re a lot cheaper then HLJ. She cost $79 (although the price on her went up a bit). My boyfriend thinks my most recent Pullip is ultra creepy, I’ll have to share pics later. I don’t think she is that weird.
