Bon Festival Petit Haruhi Nendoroids

Thats right I got the Bon Festival Petit Haruhi Nendoroids by Good Smile Company, also known in Japan as “Nendoroid Petit Suzumiya no Yuuutsu Ochuugen Set”. In Japan this set sold for $30, obviously I had to pay a bit more since only residents of Japan had access to these. Whereas us back in the US needed to rely on a Proxy or eBay. How much did I spend? Not too much, $60, still a lot more then I would normally spend on a few petit nendoroids but these ones really have a high cute factor for me. I’d rather have these over any other exclusive nendoroid item out there. I’ve always been a fan of the whole school swimsuit design they have in Japan but most figures of characters in these swimsuits are too sexy or too ‘moe’.

Someone once before asked me exactly how limited another “Limited Nendoroid” I owned was…and I couldn’t answer. I had no idea how many had been made, sometimes figures will be called “Limited” when 50,000 of them are made. These ones however, I do know exactly how limited they are! They’re limited to 5,000!! I know thats not ridiculously rare but I can’t imagine myself owning anything “rarer” than these.

This is my 2nd set of petit nendoroids and I was actually able to assemble these ones. Although it still was a bit tricky at least it was doable. The whole time images of broken nendoroids danced through my head. It was a lot more annoying putting together the short haired girls because the stand inserts on their lower back (where that precious inflatable tube is). While on the longer haired character the insert point was on the back of the hair.

The only thing I’m a bit unsure of is that Haruhi is in the pink bathing suit…that color just doesn’t match her to me. But pink would clash with Mikuru’s hair, pink on Yuki is even more wrong, and green matches Tsuruya perfectly. So I can understand how Haruhi ended up with the pink suit. My other criticism would be that the diving blocks don’t link together in a way thats perfectly flat. It’s a bit uneven but nothing too noticeable.

According too Heisei Democracy gifts at Bon Festival are supposed to be given to someone you’re indebted to. I think thats a cute tradition but somehow I doubt most of the people who bought these sets were for the sake of another that they were indebted to. Me? I was indebted to myself for letting myself miss the Alter Revy pre-orders 🙂 thus these nendoroids were quite necessary.

When I was watching The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya I found myself charmed by Ryoko the most. Although she was escorted out of the series by Yuki pretty early on I was still happy with her. I was even more thrilled with her when her true nature was revealed. In figures she looks absolutely wonderful wielding her knife, and lets face it of all the girls dressed up as bunnies Ryoko rocks the outfit better than any of the other females. I don’t collect the regular sized Haruhi nendoroids but I was going to make an exception for Ryoko…until I saw the accessories she came with. The regular sized Ryoko nendoroid has extra accessories for all the other regular sized nendoroids! It would drive me crazy to have those accessories and not the nendoroids they go to. Sigh….

Anyone else out there a fan of Ryoko over the rest of the cast? If not who is your favorite character from The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya?
